I buy a lot of things on Amazon, let me tell you, but these shoes may be my favorite out of all of them, and without question in my Top 5.Wearing a size 13EEEE shoe since the middle of high school, I learned early to have measured expectations about shoes. Much like the infamous contractor's triangle of good/fast/cheap, where you are only ever permitted to have (at best) two out of those three on any given project, I was generally pleased anytime I could find a pair that offered any pairing of stylish appearance, genuine comfort or durability. For the decade-plus prior to finding these shoes, I'd generally settled on whatever New Balance's walking shoe du jour was as my best option, and with three pairs in rotation I could expect a year of wear out of each with pretty good comfort for the first 60% of that timeframe. Thankfully, those days are over and even if I have to buy the Brooks company to keep it in business, I will never go back. When I got these shoes in 2014, I was hitting my stride with online shopping and resolved to purchase my first pair of shoes that way since the devil-may-care attitude towards shoe comfort I'd had through my 20s was giving way to the creaks and groans of my 30s. After combing through online reviews and foot pain forums, my decision was to try a pair from a brand I'd never even heard of despite over 15 years of shopping in specialty footwear stores. After receiving these shoes, I no longer believe in any benefit to buying shoes from a brick-and-mortar store, because there is no excuse for letting people throw money away on New Balance and Dunham when the Brooks Addiction Walker exists in the same size. The difference in experience is as striking as going from walking barefoot to wearing sandals: you go from seeing some discomfort as inevitable to being very surprised in the rare occasions when it occurs. After the first week with them, I threw all three pairs of New Balance that I had in the trash with that smug sense of satisfaction that you only find when overcoming an obstacle after years of wrestling with it, the kind that makes animated leprechauns jump in the air while clicking their heels together. It was 38 months ago, to the day, that I bought my first pair of these shoes, and I am just now back to replace them. ... You heard me right, that single pair has lasted me through over three years of daily wear, and it's only the separation of the soles from the uppers that is prompting that because otherwise they still look fantastic and feel like clouds under my feet. Living on a dirt road in a very rural area that regularly requires walking on coarse gravel and forest trails that kind of longevity is something I'd only seen before from the most premium of hiking boots, though I expect those to start lasting much longer now that I have far less cause to wear them. The first day I wore them I was actually uneasy with how much more natural they felt against my feet than any shoes I'd worn before, to the point that my gait changed a bit to what I now realize is how my body always wanted to move. By the second day I was strutting around like John Travolta in the opening scene of Saturday Night Fever complete with invisible Bee Gees soundtrack in my head; I've never received so many compliments on new shoes from friends and family all at once. Most people never even noticed when I'd worn new shoes before. They check all the boxes for me, from having a broad toe box without looking too angular in front, to simply amazing tread and grip that has never once left me nearly losing footing or even slightly rolling an ankle no matter how rugged the terrain, to remaining as comfortable in the 16th hour of wear as they were when I put them on in the morning. They also breathe as well as the last pair of running shoes I had (an Asics model I've since forgotten though they were awesome), which shouldn't be possible since those were mesh above the toe box and these are solid, but it's true. I have low arches almost to the point of non-existence, and even the insoles they came with gave good support, but after replacing them with my trusted Powerstep insoles, I knew instinctively that I had found the footwear the Universe intended for me to use. If forced to find something to gripe about I would go for the fact that they squeak on highly polished floors, but as I find that's a function of high grip soles, I'm fine with occasional squeaking over occasional pratfalls. If you made it this far, then just scroll up and buy these shoes. There are too few things in the world that: a) are so incredibly good that they merit a review like this, and b) can improve your quality of life more than having good shoes. These shoes seem to be very well made. I feel as though all the other sneakers and shoes that I get tend to fall apart faster than I would expect them to, so I decided to try the Addiction Walker shoes by Brooks. Time will be the test here. It seems to me that the shoe runs a little narrow, but it wasn't enough to make me send it back and order something extra wide. The Brooks website says that the shoe is slip resistant. I am not sure what slip resistant means in that case as I wore them through a restaurant kitchen and they were not as slip resistant as most other shoes that say they are slip resistant. So I did slip around a little bit. The most impressive feature of the shoe is how comfortable it is when you're walking, especially on hard surfaces. When you walk it feels as though there are shock absorbers in the soles. So the name Addiction Walker seems appropriate as I would guess for someone who normally would take a 1 mile walk every night after dinner would now want to take a 2 mile walk every night after dinner. In other words, if I had my (old shoes) on and walked 1 mile and put the (Addiction Walkers) on and walked 2 miles I feel as though my (effort exerted) for both items here would be equal because the Addiction Walker shoes make walking feel easier. EE = (OS X 1mi) = (AW X 2mi) <-- for fun I am not sure if I will be able to come back and add to this review at a later time. It would be nice if I could do that just to report on how the shoes hold up through time. It is hard to review shoes when I've only had them a month, but right now, I like them.I ordered the Addiction for two reasons:1) I couldn’t bring myself to pay $160 for the new Brooks Beast, but still wanted a shoe with a stronger, more supportive midsole than the typical sneakers popular today.2) Beasts are never available in classic all white designsThe Addiction looks and feels great! I ordered double wides (EE) in 11.5. The midsole passed my bend test, and they feel comfortable. I tried wearing them the first time, all day, at work. I work in a high school classroom so I’m on my feet most of the day walking from desk to desk. By the end of the day, my feet felt a little pang of soreness. Not sure if that’s because they were new or because they weren’t as supportive as Beasts. I have plantar fasciitis which went away when I started wearing Brooks Beasts. The next day I added my prescription orthotics to the insides of my new Addictions and now they feel exactly as good as Beasts. So I was willing to sacrifice a little support for my desired, all-white style. Another reviewer said his white shoe actually was not actually white. I disagree. These have bright bright white leather; though the reviewer may have been referring to the collar and inner lining, which matches the stitched logo on the side. It is a slightly darker white, maybe gray, but does not detract from the classic white styling.I am extremely happy with this shoe and have received many compliments. And yes, I consider it a cheaper alternative to Beasts but I’m lucky enough to be able to add my orthotics. Not sure my feet would agree in the long run without orthotics.**a note about shoe color:Now I see what a previous reviewer was talking about. They are correct that under some lighting conditions there is a slight difference in the brightness of the white leather and the white midsole, the midsole being brighter. I wouldn’t say the leather is gray, just less bright of a white.I bought this product for walking after reading so many great reviews online and it being rated the #1 walking shoe. They couldn't be any more wrong. The style isnt too great its all one solid colour and do not look very trendy. More like a work shoe or for someone much older than my age group 25 to 35.The comfortThey are comfortable the standard width is quite wide so helps people who over pronate or have flat feet, the toe box is also nice and roomy. However, after wearing there is no breathability, your feet get ridiculously hot and sweaty and this isn't even on a hot day. When you take your feet out your left with a swimming pool of sweat, its not great and as a result i started developing Athletes foot as the shoes make your feet an ideal breeding ground.DurabilityThe outside durability is decent and the soles will probably last about 2000miles of walking if not more (average shoe lasts me about 6 months which is about 500miles of walking). The inside isn't too great it starts to rip and disintegrate in the toe box. As a result i have had to return mine after a week as they started to break from the inside and i wasn't impressed at all for the price paidI bought these for a recent trip to Australia and vietnam. I wanted comfortable footwear that would be be supportive and help prevent my feet and ankles getting too painful, it has been an issue in recent years and my plantar fasciitis flares up with the wrong footwear. They are well made and black leather looks quite smart I think, I wore them often in the evenings. Initially I did not think they were really comfortable, they are not the most comfortable standing still because they are supportive at the heel, jogging trainers feel softer cushioned. However, the benefit comes in these when you walk, they are very good for walking as they are supportive under the heal with plenty of cushion at the front as you roll forward. I walked miles every day and did not have any pains or plantar fasciitis pains in the 4 weeks of the holiday, so they definitely helped me. I now actually wear them all the time at home.First off - ordered a size 8, which is my usual size...that was just a bit small, so returned for an 8.5. I was not sure about ordering these shoes, as I have an autoimmune disease which has affected my feet causing a lot of pain at times, the "wrong" footwear can really cause a lot of problems and, I can only wear certain shoes. Until recently those shoes were MBT's, my tried and tested chosen footwear. But recently MBT's changed the manufacture of their shoes, and the soles have developed a fault, after buying three pairs and the soles falling to bits at various stages post purchase, I decided I had to find a new brand. I am so happy I found Brookes Addiction Walkers. These shoes are AMAZING. They are so light, such good quality and easily the comfiest shoes I have ever worn. I wear them all the time, and will be buying them again for sure. Love them. If you suffer from any sort of foot problem causing discomfort, as I do, my bet is your feet will have a happy relationship with these shoes.Although the shoe is a little bit chunky, it’s comfortable and very supportive. I can walk for ages without my back hurting with these shoes. I also have plantar fasciitis and these shoes have reduced the pain a lot. I wished I discovered them earlier.Update (Sept 2, 2018) - so I’ve worn these shoes for a couple of months now. They’re still comfortable and although I still have plantar fasciitis and the pain that comes with it, these shoes have reduced the pain a lot. I can walk for longer and faster with these shoes.I wrote a review some time ago about a pair or shoes made by Asics and sang there praise, these shoes are even better in everyway. I walk my dog for 3 hours every day over different surfaces and in all weathers , these shoes have proved near faultless. They are well made, smart looking and can be cleaned by just a lick of polish, so far they seem water proof or at least water resistant, they are extremely comfortable, I have ordered and received another pair for the future just in case they are discontinued. An oversight by the manufacturer not to use proper eyelets make it a little difficult to tighten the laces but this is minor criticism I have no hesitation in recommending these shoes.
